Concordia Projects: Papadede

Papadede

C. Ray Hunt designed the Hiliner hull for Jim Bertram who was looking for a fiberglass deep vee to race off shore in Florida in the late 60s. Papadede (the Gypsy model) was purchased in 1970 by Stewart Forbes of Birchfield Farms ( S. Dartmouth , MA ) and remains the family's boat. After considering the purchase of a new Hunt, Charlie and Sandy Forbes felt the old Hunt had as smooth a ride as the new ones. They consulted with both Hunt and Concordia regarding the hull's condition and whether a restoration project had merit. Given the classic lines and history of the boat, Concordia was commissioned during the winter of 2006-2007 to restore Papadede to give the family grandchildren a boat they can cross the bay on with their kids.

We stripped her down, lowered the original bottom paint line at the bow & sprayed her with Medium Gray Awl-Grip. Adding a white boot and red bottom over barrier coat finished the exterior look. We buffed and waxed the original deck for this season, and added a new rubrail after some glass work. On the inside, we rebuilt the Mercruiser and went through the outdrive. New controls and steering were added with a Raymarine C70 on a custom built tear-drop dash. We also built a custom companionway & slides, custom drop seats aft and re-upholstered side panels. Find her blasting around Buzzards Bay over the next 40 years.
